Simple Social CRM Plugin for Gmail: Rapportive

Gmail users now have an option for a social CRM tool right within their inbox with the Rapportive plugin. The UK startup’s new Gmail plugin for Chrome and Firefox pulls in your contacts and gives you a preview of their profile, complete with picture and bio, as well as links to other social profiles. In addition, notes can be added for each contact to help keep them all straight or to add insights to each one.

The plugin only works with Gmail, but it’s both free and simple to use. Once installed, a sidebar appears when viewing any email, showing any social profiles associated with that contact’s email address. The sign-in process is a simple click, acknowledging that Rapportive can connect to your account, and that’s all it takes to use this innovative CRM tool with your Gmail account. As a bonus, the plugin also covers the sidebar area in Gmail which is normally filled with ads.

Users familiar with the Outlook plugin Xobni will find similarities in Rapportive, but the fact that it works easily with your Gmail account may make this a more useful tool, although the search features of Xobni are not integrated into the new plugin.

Rapportive will soon work with other paid CRM services such as SalesForce.com, as well as helpdesk services, event listings, email marketing, and customer feedback.
