Duplicate data is a common issue in Ticketmaster Archtics® due to the multiple data entry points, both direct and indirect, into the database.
Duplication can cause a number of problems for both the sales and the marketing departments. Salespeople need to spend extra time finding the right customer data. Leads and customers may get redundant phone calls and mailings. These issues result in inefficiencies and can lead to a less favorable perception of the organization. In the worst cases, the result is lost ticket sales.
Database duplicate detection is often limited to a simple comparison of text strings and substrings from among a set of fields. The problem with the text string comparison method is that it only catches a fraction of duplicates.
We’re introducing a solution based on a proven technology for client/server applications.
Archtics Duplicate Records That Aren’t Detected
Duplicate records can be created in Archtics via both user data entry and by external feeds via a variety of channels. The following are some of the cases for which duplicates are not be detected by standard text comparison methods:
- Nicknames (Gabby vs. Gabriella)
- Phonetic Similarities (Catherine vs. Kathryn)
- Subtle Name Variants (Johnson vs. Johnston)
- Misspellings (Duglas vs. Douglas)
- Word Order (Peter Smith vs. Smith, Peter)
- Abbreviations (AVT vs. Advanced Video Technologies)
- Noise Words (Inc., Ltd, LLC, Corp, .com, The, & Company, etc.)
- Word Segmentation (Salesforce vs. Sales Force)
- Spelled out Street Numbers (One Market vs. 1 Market)
- Multiple Email Addresses (<fan>@yahoo.com vs. <fan>@gmail.com)
In order to be an effective duplicate detection tool, the tool must have phonetic, fuzzy matching capability to find matches based on cases such as these.
